After completing his studies Prince Carlos worked for the ABN AMRO Bank in Amsterdam and Hong Kong, where he was involved with preparations for the introduction of the euro. In 1999 he moved to Brussels, where he worked for the European Public Policy Advisors group, where he was responsible for the transport and energy dossiers.
Since 2007 he has been engaged in projects concerning sustainability in the business world. He helps to develop the Dutch Institute for Innovation and Sustainability.
He has been president of the Spanish, Portuguese and Latin-American Foundation for the last 5 years. He is president of the ELA at the University of Utrecht. He is also an executive member of the Carlos de Amberes Foundation.
